Newly appointed Safa technical director Serame Letsoaka, pictured, and Free State Stars co-coach Steve Komphela have been roped into the Bafana Bafana set-up for the Confederations Cup from June 14 to 28.

Bafana start their Confederations Cup campaign against Iraq at Ellis Park Stadium on June 14.

Bafana manager Sipho Nkumane yesterday told Sowetan that Letsoaka and Komphela will serve as scouts for the team.

"They will watch our game against Poland at Orlando Stadium on June 6 and do an assessment of the match between Iraq and Poland in Cape Town," Nkumane said.

"They will also watch the other games to help Bafana prepare for the second round."

Letsoaka is happy for the opportunity to assist the national squad.

"It's an honour for to be given a chance to serve my country at the Confederations Cup," said Letsoaka.

"We must all rally behind Bafana to ensure the team performs well during the Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup. "I'll sit down with Sipho to look at the programme so that it does not clash with the one for Amajita [the national U-20 squad] for the World Youth Championships in Egypt in October."

Letsoaka will be in charge of Amajita for the Egypt spectacle.

Komphela, whose club has already confirmed that he would be released for national duty, could not be reached for comment yesterday.

"I can confirm that the Bafana coach has been talking to Steve on a regular basis regarding issues relating to the Confederations Cup," said Stars' chairman Mike Mokoena.

"Themba Sithole [Stars joint head coach] will be in charge of the team for the side's pre-season training while Steve will be with Bafana for the Confederations Cup assignment."
