We want our money, boxers cry

Two disgruntled boxers have accused some boxing promoters of taking them for a ride by failing to pay them the balance of their purse monies for their fight that took place in March.

And now Boxing SA must shoulder the blame.

The national governing body bent the rules allowing World Sport Promotions (WSP) to deposit purse monies for Takalani Ndlovu's fight with Oscar Chauke for the WBF featherweight title on the day of the weigh-in. Regulations stipulate a minimum of 14 days before the fight.

Now champion Ndlovu is still owed the balance of R30000 and Chauke is owed R40000 by WSP.

The said promoters are King Ramathe, Thabang Segooa, Mikiro Ramphenyane and Eric Strydom. They bought this consortium from Thinus Strydom around June last year.

Ndlovu and Chauke are under the wing of WSP, but their faith in their promoters has been shaken.

Ndlovu is scheduled to defend on June 19, and that fight will be staged by WSP. But he is not sure what the future holds for him at WSP.

The truth is Ndlovu's belt has brought more misery than joy.

This married father of is struggling to make ends meet, and wants his money badly.

"I am a family man. I need money. This will disturb me badly mentally in my preparations for my next fight," he said.

"I have not approached Boxing SA about this matter. I have instead faced those supposed to give what belongs to me."

When confronted for comment, King acknowledged owing Ndlovu and Chauke the balance of their purse monies.

"They will be paid their balance, I think probably by the end of next week. This whole delay was caused by the fact that we are owed by SABC 1 and the North West department of sport and recreation," he said.
