A northern KwaZulu-Natal security guard yesterday shot dead his wife dead before turning the gun on himself.

It is alleged that an enraged Bheki Msibi, 32, opened fire on his wife Zama, 25, after a heated argument in their home.

Captain Shooz Magudulela said police found husband and wife dead at their home.

The couple is said to have had a domestic squabble.

A witness said the two had quarrelled before Msibi drew his firearm and shot his wife twice. He then turned the gun on himself.

Magudulela said the police were investigating a case of murder.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, police arrested shoplifters at a local branch of Hi-Fi Corporation.

The store owner had apparently lost more than R160000 in stock in April but it was not clear how the goods were being stolen and taken out of the store.

Magudulela said their investigations had led to the arrest of a male employee and a female security guard.
