VWV Consortium, the globally renowned entertainment company that includes Lebo M, have won the tender to run the opening and closing ceremonies of the Confederations Cup, which kicks off on June 14.

This was announced by Local Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordaan at a media briefing at Safa House yesterday.

The two sides would not reveal the amount of money involved because there is a confidentiality clause in the contract.

Jordaan said: "We are excited to have Lebo M as part of the team. He has done well and is known for producing the Lion King.

"They [opening and closing ceremonies] will be distinctly African, and we will deliver on all the promises we made when we won the 2010 World Cup bid."

Lebo M, an international producer who was born Lebohang Morake, said: "A special thanks to the LOC. We have done a lot of research locally and internationally."

Lebo M will be the executive producer of the event, which will include local and international artists.

"We'll deliver a successful event heavily driven by all the African elements - like style and lyrics of Africa and South Africa as the host country," said Lebo M.

"We have been inundated with telephone calls from people locally and internationally who want to perform during the ceremonies. It will be a truly world class event."

Abey Mokgwatsane, chief executive of VWV, said: "It is indeed a privilege and honour to help South Africa raise the curtain on this incredible moment in our history."
