People and animals will no longer have to drink from the same river, thanks to a R3million water project spearheaded by the Mopani district.

The water crisis resulted in angry service delivery protests by villagers in Limpopo's Greater Letaba municipality.

Contractors started the project in the Burkina Faso and Maraka settlements in the Bolobedu district and in the Tshabelane region in the Sekgosese district last week.

Burkina Faso community leader Cedric Mashao said the move would end tensions between the local municipality and the local villagers.

"The villagers used to share water with animals in rivers and wells and were exposed to several waterborne diseases," Mashao said.
