The SABC is canning one of Mzansi's favourite shows - Emzini Wezinsizwa.

The series has an average viewership of 1,8 million and competes favourably with the hot soapie Generations.

Actors of the series (Emzini) are fuming after the public broadcaster declined a proposal to recommission the comedy.

Last year repeats of the Emzini Wezinsizwa series7 got an average rating of 1,8 million.

But SABC head of drama Khethiwe Ngcobo says SABC1 does not think the comedy is good enough to be recommissioned.

"The channel no longer sees Emzini Wezinsizwa as fit for its current positioning."

Vusi Thanda, known as Tshawe in the comedy, lashed out at the SABC for being selfish.

Ronald Mqwebu, who plays Mkhize, said he was baffled by the snub.

"Wherever I go people ask me about the new Emzini Wezinsizwa series."

Creative Workers Union honorary president Boikie Mohlamme said rejecting Emzini Wezinsizwa said a lot about Ngcobo.
