MIAMI - Venus Williams climbed two places in the latest women's tennis world rankings released on Monday, after her semifinal showing at the WTA Rome International claycourt tournament.

MIAMI - Venus Williams climbed two places in the latest women's tennis world rankings released on Monday, after her semifinal showing at the WTA Rome International claycourt tournament.

Williams climbs to third, one place behind her sister and reigning Australian Open champion Serena, with Russia's Dinara Safina strengthening her hold on top spot after winning the tournament in Rome last week.

Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova - beaten by Safina in the Rome final - also climbed but Russia's Elena Dementieva fell two places to number five. - AFP
