The beleaguered Molemole municipality in Limpopo yesterday suspended its municipal manager, Sudan Lethole, for alleged misconduct.

Lethole had been on forced leave since January as investigations into his alleged activities continued.

Municipal spokesperson Timothy Molopa, pictured, confirmed yesterday that Lethole had been suspended pending investigations.

Sowetan is in possession of a document detailing four charges against Lethole.

The charges are failure to conclude a performance agreement with the municipality in the 2007/08 financial year. Lethole was also charged for his alleged failure to execute instructions of the council. He also allegedly failed to comply with the duties imposed on him by the Municipal Finance Management Act, and for failing to give mayor Maite Mohale monthly financial reports.

The council is reportedly divided over Lethole's suspension. Some councillors had reportedly opposed the suspension and others hadsupported it.

A source at the municipality hinted yesterday that Lethole was contemplating challenging his suspension legally.

"Lethole has made it clear that he will challenge his suspension through his lawyers," said the source, who did not wish to be identified.
