Negotiations about doctors' salaries stalled yesterday when government negotiators remained firm on their initial offer of a five percent increase.

The talks are continuing today at the bargaining chambers. Sowetan has learnt that unless the government presents a fresh proposal, the doctors' representatives plan to walk out.

"We talked in circles, no movement at all. It was a waste of time. There was disappointment when the government's representatives came back to tell us they were not moving an inch," said a source close to negotiations.
