The University of Venda has reinstated two whistleblowers who were suspended for championing an investigation into corruption on the campus.
Workers Joint Structures (WJS) chairperson Calvin Muloiwa and secretary Sedzani Mukhuvhukhuvhu were suspended in May last year after management accused them of misconduct when they backed a bid by workers to probe corruption on campus.
The investigation exposed maladministration and corruption to the tune of R10million and led to the sacking of three staff members.
The WJS was accused of compiling a dossier on corruption highlighting the "rife corruption" on campus and sending it to former minister of education Naledi Pandor.
It was also discovered that some executive managers had allocated bursaries meant for needy students to their relatives and children.
After the investigation, the institution targeted Muloiwa and Mukhuvhukhuvhu and suspended them.
University spokesperson Takalani Dzaga said the two WJS officials "were found guilty" but were now back at work.
