Pityana considers offers for relegated Bay United
Sipho Pityana, chairman of the relegated Bay United says he will consider offers from potential buyers for his club.
The club's board of directors held an urgent meeting in Port Elizabeth at the weekend to discuss the future.
Pityana said he has received four offers from people who are keen to buy Umlilo. He confirmed yesterday that one of those was Uitenhage businessman Butityi Konki but he would not reveal the names of the other three potential buyers.
"Although the club's board noted that only one of the bidders [Konki] indicated they would be willing to keep the club in the Eastern Cape, a decision was taken to consider all offers," explained Pityana
Said Konki yesterday: "I am keen to buy the status of this team and ensure it remains in the Eastern Cape.
"They have the potential to return to the Premiership."
Pityana said the decision to sell the team was prompted in part by the hostile environment created by the Port Elizabeth Municipality.
"There are no less than 10 municipality-owned stadiums in Port Elizabeth, which is our home town, yet the club still does not have a practice facility and home base," he lamented.
