KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested two of their colleagues in connection with an armed robbery at a satellite police station on Durban's beach front early this year.

The arrested police officers from Inanda police station. During the robbery 15 firearms were stolen.

The arrest came barely 24 hours after police arrested three police reservists, suspected of killing their colleague, a key witness in the same case.

The robbery, which police described as "embarrassing", took place in February.

At the time the robbery took place, two reservists were on duty when a robber pretended he wanted to open a criminal case.

Police said while an officer was busy assisting the "complainant" his partner entered brandishing a firearm, held them up and took a bag containing fully-loaded guns before running off. The guns had not yet been locked away.

Captain Thulani Zwane said the two cops were arrested on Sunday.

"Their arrest follows an intensive investigation that has been conducted by a special task team set up to investigate the robbery.

"But I want to stress that their arrest has no link to the murder of Musa Thusi, who was gunned down on Friday," said Zwane.

Thusi, 45, a key witness in the case against the officers and a reservist based at the police station that was robbed, was preparing to leave for work from his uMzinyathi home near Inanda when he was confronted by unknown assailants who shot him several times.

The three police reservists, Rose Dlamini, Thabani Mchunu, and Khanyisile Khuzwayo, appeared briefly in the Verulam magistrate's court yesterday charged with murder.
