Cosatu's Mpumalanga treasurer Nomvula Shoba - who was sworn in last week as a new MP, has died Parliament said yesterday.

Acting parliamentarysecretary Michael Coetzee yesterday expressed condolences to the Shoba family and to the ANC on the passing of Shoba.

"Shoba collapsed getting off the bus as she returned from the presidential inauguration on Saturday," said parliamentary spokesperson Sakhile Mokoena.

"She was immediately taken to the medical centre of the hotel in which she was staying," he said.

"Regrettably, she could not be resuscitated."

Mokoena said Shoba's family had been informed that she was in Johannesburg at the time of her collapse.

"It is difficult to convey our profound sense of loss in words. So much was expected of her by Parliament.

"We wish her family strength at this time of bereavement," said Mokoena.
