Few surprises are expected when Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza announces his cabinet tomorrow - with the education and health departments being offered to newcomers.

Sowetan has learnt that Clifford Mukansi, a medical doctor from Bushbuckridge, is expected to head the health department, while Dikeledi Mahlangu is tipped to lead education.

Other relative unknowns rumoured to be in the new executive committee are Meshack Malinga, who is tipped to head agriculture, Regina Mohaole for local government and Vusi Shongwe for roads and transport, while Sibongile Manana is earmarked for sport, arts and recreation.

Former health MEC Fish Mahlalela will probably return to safety and security, while Jabu Mahlangu will remain at finance, insiders say.

Former provincial legislature speaker Pinky Phosa, wife of ANC treasurer-general Mathews Phosa, is expected to head social development.

Social development will now be separated from health.

The housing department will also be split from local government and will probably be headed by David Dube.

This has raised questions about the seriousness of the provincial government to deliver as the newcomers lack experience.
