SuperSport United are the Absa Premiership League champions for the second time in a row and their coach, Gavin Hunt, believes his charges will do it for the third time next season.

An upbeat Hunt was speaking to Sowetan after his side drew 0-0 with Santos in their last 2008-09 league game at Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch on Saturday.

When referee Buyile Gqubule blew the final whistle, SuperSport players, Hunt and his assistant Thomas Madigage could not contain their joy as they ran around in front of more than 5000 fans.

"We nearly lost it but the guys never gave up and kept on fighting until the last game today [Saturday]. I must congratulate my players and I think they deserve a break and hopefully, next season, we will keep the cup," said Hunt.

He felt honoured to receive the trophy in his home town and said: "I will not forget today's [Saturday] date. It will be a day worth telling my children about in future," he said.

Hunt's assistant, Madigage, said: "It is a blessing to work with Gavin [hunt] and I would like to thank him for exposing me to coaching and being part of a winning team."

Santos coach David Bright felt his charges tried their best but it was too late. He lamented his team's overall below par performance this season.

"Look, many things happened this season. Some players left the team while most who remained did not reach their peak. We could not match the pace of other teams and sadly, players that I wanted were very expensive," said Bright

Bright refused to say whether he will be with Santos next season but promised that would be revealed soon .
