Wits honours jazz maestro

Renowned jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim will this weekend be conferred with an honorary doctorate by the University of the Witwatersrand.

Ibrahim won the Best Male Artist Award at the Samas last weekend.

Tonight he will perform at the Wits Great Hall as part of the annual Wits Arts and Literature Experience, Wale).

"Wale is open to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the creative and intellectual endeavours of the students, both past and present, and teaching staff ," said founder of Wale, Profesor Tawana Kupe, Dean of the Wits Faculty of Humanities.

The Wale programme is a celebration of the creative and intellectual energy at Wits.
