The DA has retained ward 15 of Tzaneen in local government elections of Tzaneen municipality on Wednesday.

The ANC has never won the ward since 1995. It is made up of predominantly white voters.

The ANC has, however, won the elections by a large margin in ward 2 of the Thulamela municipality.

In Greater Tzaneen, where voter turnout was 32,9percent, the DA won the elections with a huge margin after it recorded 67,1percent.

This paved the way for DA candidate Petronella Mcgaffin to serve in the council.

The final results shows that ANC got 25,6percent, ACDP 5,3percent and FF+ 1,9percent.

In Thulamela, with a 44, 7percent voter turnout, the ANC got 93,5percent, Cope 5,2percent, ACDP 0,8percent, and the UDM 0,3percent.

This means ANC candidate, Tshilidzi Ndevana will become a new councillor for ward 2 in the Thulamela municipality.

The by-elections in the Tzaneen municipality follows the deaths of ward 15 councillor and his counterpart in ward 2 earlier this year.
