Encochoyini Primary School from Thokoza, Ekurhuleni, will stage their own Confederations Cup to create awareness in the township ahead of the big Fifa showdown, starting from June 14-28.

Speaking to Sowetan yesterday, coordinator Elliot Sithole said the tournament will be played at the school's premises at Phola Park on May 15.

"The key objective of the tournament is to create awareness in the township about the upcoming event in June. We will emphasise the importance of rallying behind our country," said Sithole.

Eight boys and girls teams will feature in the one-day knockout tournament.

All teams have adopted the names of the eight countries that will be competing in the real event. The countries are Italy, the United States, Egypt, Iraq, Brazil, Spain, New Zealand and hosts South Africa.

The winners will go home with a trophy and gold medals while the runners-up will collect silver medals in both categories.
