Charges against two Soweto men accused of defrauding customers of the Edcon Group were yesterday withdrawn in the Germiston regional court.
Dumisani Ngobeni and Mapinkis Paul Gundwane, both of Tshiawelo, have been in custody since they were arrested in January. They allegedly cloned store cards that were used to run up expensive accounts in customers' names.
The group includes Edgars, Jet, CNA and Boardmans.
Prosecutor NM Mmape said the state lacked sufficient evidence to proceed with the case.
