A chip off the old Block

Where is your shop and how long have you been in business?

Where is your shop and how long have you been in business?

The store is located at 11 Clyde Street, just off the Main High Street, and provides a unique retail experience - weaving together different room settings that meander through a beautifully restored building (originally Holt's Temperance Hotel and later an auction house) while providing access to those who live along the Garden Route, from Mossel Bay to Port Elizabeth.

Block and Chisel was established in Cape Town more than 18 years ago by Lynn and Sibly McAdam who took the decision to expand the business to include other retail stores.

The Knysna store is one of four in the Block and Chisel stable and opened in September 2007 (other stores include Parkwood in Jo'burg, Wynberg and Diep River in Cape Town)

Describe your shop in one sentence and what kind of shop is it?

An interior design store that sells a range of beautiful French, East Asian and European-style furniture. We are also very proud of our Block and Chisel range, which is designed by Sibly McAdam and manufactured locally.

Describe your customers?

We have a discerning and varied clientele. Although established decorators make up our primary market our furniture and home goods cater to anyone who wants to add something beautiful to their home. Our motto is to inspire people to live beautifully.

What is the soundtrack in your shop?

Our two favourites are "Crazy" by Julio Iglesias and Nat King Cole's "Too Marvellous For Words"

What makes your shop unique?

What makes the shop unique is the unusual location and building. We are very proud of our historical building and the layout works well with our style of furniture . - Keitumetse Segoai
