The DA in Mpumalanga wants answers from provincial safety and security MEC Siphosezwe Masango why a policeman allegedly facing a murder charge is still on duty.

The DA allegedly learnt that Inspector Kinga Kubayi, the cop facing a charge of murder for allegedly shooting a pupil Sedi Khoza in his classroom on January 30 is still working at a police station.

"We have received confirmation that Kubayi has been on duty and is still regarded as working at his police station even though his trial has commenced," said the DA's Ashley Trichards.

Khoza, 17, a pupil at Manukose High School in Merry People Stream village near Thulamahashe in Mpumalanga, was shot dead in a police raid on his classroom on that fateful morning.

Trichards said while the circumstances of the murder are still being investigated, the DA recommends that Kubayi should be suspended pending the outcome of the murder trial.
