Proteas shy of trophies

The South African cricket team is on top of the one-day international rankings but has never won a major ICC trophy.

And this is a worrying factor for national selection chief Mike Procter, ahead of the ICC World Bank Pro20 tournament in England next month.

He was speaking to Sowetan yesterday after the announcement of the 15-member Standard Bank Pro20 squad that will compete at the international event.

Procter believes the Proteas have a chance of engraving their name on the trophy this time round because they boast experienced players.

Current form in the Standard Bank Pro20 domestic competition has been an influential factor in the selection process.

The squad will gather for a training camp at the end of the month in Durban.
