Police in Durban are continuing their crackdown on criminals.
Yesterday, a suspect linked to a housebreaking in the Cato Manor area was killed in a shootout with police.
Police spokesperson Jay Naicker said that at 4.30am members of the Flying Squad spotted suspects in a vehicle that was stolen during a robbery in Cato Manor on Friday.
"When the officers approached the vehicle, the suspects sped off and the police gave chase.
"The vehicle went in the direction of Cato Manor and in the process the suspects opened fire on the police.
"There was an exchange of gunfire during the chase. Police managed to stop the vehicle at Cato Manor and one suspect was killed," said Naicker.
He said two other suspects managed to flee but one of them was injured as he had left a trail of blood at the scene.
Four others found in the stolen car were taken in for questioning.
Naicker said a pistol and other valuables stolen during the robbery at a house were recovered.
"Criminals have not heeded our warnings and are paying the price for their arrogance and lack of respect for the law," Naicker said.
Last week, three suspects were killed after a daring shootout with the police that left two officers and a truck driver dead.
Meanwhile, police have launched a massive manhunt for the killers of a taxi owner, Ngowane Msweli, who was shot dead in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Police Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said yesterday that Msweli and his friends were driving out of his KwaMsane home, on their way to hunt, when the incident happened on Sunday.
He said Msweli died at the scene while two of his friends were seriously wounded.
Mdletshe said Msweli's three other friends escaped unharmed.
