It's hardly a month since Jarett "The Storm" Lovett was slapped with a 12 month suspension for unbecoming behaviour, now it seems he has lived up to his moniker and gotten into further trouble.
Lovett, Lee Dyer (a Baby Champs titlehoder), Zane Mandel (professional fighter) and Aubrey Lovett (Jarett's father) allegedly assaulted six senior members of the public at San Vineros restaurant in Glenanda a fortnight ago, according to a complainant who did not wish to be named.
She wrote to Boxing SA:
"Five of our guys were sitting having dinner at a restaurant called San Vineros in Glenanda south of Johannesburg. These thugs without warning assaulted them with steel chairs. Incidentally the owner of the restaurant was also badly beaten by them.
"We have reported the matter to the Mondeor police station."
Boxing SA's director of operations, Loyiso Mtya, could only muster "wow" when asked about the "gruesome" pictures.
He said according to the act they could suspend Lovett without a hearing but they wouldn't.
"We have informed the board of Boxing SA and made recommendations such as suspending Lovett's licence indefinitely. But we are waiting on the board".
Lovett said: "This is bullshit. Don't believe all the stories you hear about me. Just because I was there, people say I was involved. I didn't throw a punch. I am a professional boxer. I am not stupid."
Apparently Lovett's younger sister had her 16th birthday party at the restaurant. Some "boys" were getting "rowdy" with the girls and a scuffle broke out.
"Lee told me to watch over my sister. I grabbed her, went straight into the car and drove away," said Lovett who has set boxing scenes alight with his fists since he turned professional last year and was deservedly voted Boxing SA's Prospect for 2008 in February.
His promoter Rodney Berman has pitted him against rising star, Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen, for the IBO Youth light heavyweight belt at Emperor's Palace on July 11.
But it's unclear if the fight will go ahead as the condition of Lovett's suspension is that he can fight inside the ring but must not be involved in any unbecoming behaviour within that period.
