Three people, including two women, were taken in for questioning in connection with the murder of a suspected thief whose body was found next to loaves of bread and tins of canned fish.

The man was found dead inside a bar lounge that doubles as a spaza shop in Thulamahashe township on Tuesday morning.

The suspected thief, Abednego Hlabane, 30, of Hluvukani near Manyeleti Game Reserve, was beaten to death in the building which he had allegedly broken into on Tuesday morning.

Three loaves of bread and about 20 tins of canned fish were found next to his body, along with a spade, pick and stones.

Mhala police spokesperson Constable Robert Makhubele yesterday confirmed the incident and said police were investigating .

He said police were expecting to take more people in for questioning in connection with Hlabane's death.

Meanwhile, police have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the mob killing of yet another man in Louwscreek on Monday afternoon. Members of the community cornered five men suspected of breaking into houses, but before they called the police they assaulted them.

"When police arrived, one of the man was already dead," Mpumalanga police spokesperson Superintendent Abie Khoabane said yesterday.
