SABC news and current affairs head Snuki Zikalala says he is not bitter and is not leaving the public broadcaster under a cloud.
The board of the SABC yesterday announced officially that they were not renewing Zikalala's contract, which ends tomorrow.
"I leave the SABC on a high note. I'm happy that it's not under a cloud of corruption or any other offence such as mismanagement of funds.
"I have achieved all that I wanted. I transformed the SABC and that was one of my goals. It's time that I left the SABC and made way for a younger person with fresh ideas," Zikalala said.
He said he was still planning his next move but that he would still be in the media industry.
"I have a few projects that I have to do for the SABC and should complete them in the next two to three months. I'm proud of my team.
"I have come up with great ideas like Morning Live and Weekend Live , among others, and we have increased our coverage."
Zikalala has worked for the SABC for 14 years.
SABC board chairperson Kanyi Mkonza said: "The board acknowledges the leadership and vision provided by Zikalala in establishing SABC news as an international brand.
"He surfed through difficult waters and yet remained committed to building SABC News. He was the overall leader of our news team during the last two election periods."
Veteran journalist Phil Molefe will act as head of news and current affairs with effect from this Friday. The decision not to renew Zikalala's contract follows a special board meeting held in Johannesburg on Saturday.
