Last week, South Africans were focussed on the country's general elections. And from May 15 to May 17 at the Franschhoek Literary Festival, the spotlight will be on the lives of two of South Africa's well-known and often controversial politicians. The authors of their biographies will be discussing their subjects and answering questions.
These discussions come at a time when South Africans need to have an insight into the personal and political lives of the people whose actions will determine their future.
On Saturday, May 16 at 1pm, South Africa's future with Jacob Zuma at the helm will be speculated on by his biographer, journalist Jeremy Gordin.
Gordin, who wrote Zuma, A Biography in 2008, will discuss this much spoken about political leader and now South Africa's new president with journalist and author Fred Khumalo in a session chaired by Peter Harris.
On Friday May 15 at 4pm Pippa Green, author of Choice, Not Fate - the Life and Times of Trevor Manuel, will talk to 702 Radio's Jenny Crwys-Williams about the biography of the world's longest-serving finance minister.
Other exciting topics that will reflect on the current political atmosphere will include a session where independent researcher Elwyn Jenkins and Rajend Mesthrie, professor of linguistics, will discuss South Africa's eleven official languages.
