When they made the step up from the Vodacom League to the National First Division at the beginning of the season, few would have imagined that Carara Kicks would be contenders for promotion to the Absa Premiership, but now they are on the brink of qualifying for the playoffs.

Kicks are in pole position in the Coastal Stream with 39 points from 20 matches and are left with one match in the season, they are three points ahead of FC Cape Town.

At the beginning of the season Kicks, fresh from the Vodacom League, made it clear that they did not come to add to the numbers in the league but to contest promotion.

Basil Mohalane, Kicks's general manager said they still have one more hurdle in Hanover Park, needing at least a point to be crowned champions.

"Qualifying for the Platinum playoffs will present us with more chances of being promoted to the elite league because should we not qualify in the first playoffs we will make it in the second one," Mohalane said yesterday.

He said their achievement was a result of hard work and commitment.

"We are ready for any opponent from the Inland Stream, our boys have only one thing in their minds, to play in the Premiership."
