A fierce argument near a casino between a couple ended tragically yesterday when a woman in her early thirties allegedly stabbed her husband several times with a broken bottle.

The victim in his early fifties, whose name has not yet been released, was apparently involved in an argument with his wife over infidelity.

Polokwane police spokesperson Inspector Lesiba Ramoshaba said the victim died yesterday morning, a few hours after his admission to hospital.

Ramoshaba said the couple was walking to Meropa Casino, some 7km from the city centre, at about 10pm when a fight broke up between the two.

Ramoshaba said the woman allegedly stabbed her husband several times in the head and chest. He was taken to the Polokwane Provincial Hospital where he was certified dead yesterday morning.

"We have arrested the woman and charged her with murder and she will appear in the Polokwane magistrate's court soon."

Meanwhile, police in Bolobedu have arrested a 38-year-old police inspector in connection with the murder of his lover.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said the murder suspect was driving a police van with the deceased, 29-year-old Sofie Mohale, when an argument took place.

The victim was reportedly shot in the head and died instantly at the scene.

Ramatseba said the deceased was a data typist at Bolobedu police station and was also a police reservist.
