six spots left in super cup

The Selati Super Cup moves into the third round with 12 teams set to battle it out on Monday for the last six places available in the round of 16.

The winners will join the 10 teams that have already qualified for the round of 16 of the event regarded as the richest in Mpumalanga amateur football because the winners are guaranteed R45000.

Those who have qualified are Block C Inter-Milan, Block A Real Taj, Real Aces, Patel All Stars, Young Stars, Kamhlushwa Vultures, Young Waves, Saints, Shongwe Chiefs, Cobra Block C Junior Bucks.

Kenneth Phiri, tournament organiser, said this year's event has been exciting with minnows knocking out cup favourites.

A total of 150 men's and 20 women's teams registered to take part in the event when it kicked off in January. The tournament is contested by teams under the Nkomazi region, near Komatipoort in Mpumalanga.

Monday fixtures (April 27): Naas Open Field I - Blue Birds/All Blacks v Mbuzini Junior Pirates (10am); Mzinti Liverpool v Mbokodo Wanderers (12pm); Junior Aces v Hoyi Buccaneers (2pm).

Naas Open Field II - Young Tigers v Mzinti Pirates (10am); Blue Birds v All Blacks (12pm); Mtata Peace Maker (2pm).
