What do you love most about your job?

I love that I get to do what I am passionate about every day. I thrive on meeting new clients and learning their story. My ability to do my job depends on the intimate nature of the working relationship I form with my clients. The more I know about my client the better able I am to do my job.

I adore clothing because I see it as a tool for self-expression and a means of imbuing people with a sense of confidence and glamour. Empowering people with the skills and knowledge to achieve a look that articulates their personality while keeping with the principals of good style is both rewarding and "fun".

Do you have a background in clothing design?

I have never designed my own clothing range, but I spent two years at the design house KLUK CGDT during which I was privy to the design process and to the production of the Ready-to-Wear range and fittings of the bespoke orders.

How did you become a buyer?

I have always loved clothes. Growing up, I was always the friend that advised my girlfriends on what to wear. As marketing and sales manager for KLUK CGDT, I was one day filling in for someone and got talking to a client about clothing, advising her on suitable styles. The next thing I knew I was asked to go shopping with her. I got other clients through word of mouth referrals and a year later I decided to pursue this career.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?

Undoubtedly, dealing with clients who have a very low self-esteem and confidence. My studies in psychology and consciousness coaching are invaluable to me as a personal stylist.

Describe your personal style.

It's varied and eclectic. My casual look tends towards glamour-hippy, fluid silhouettes with touches of Boho, always considered, groomed and never scruffy. For work attire the silhouette is much more tailored and feminine and I try to keep the feel current by injecting a trend into this look. It's corporate with a twist and often I use colour to punch up a potentially drab outfit. Cocktail and evening wear is 40s inspired, figure-hugging silhouettes and I indulge the glamour-puss in me by adding sparkle.

Do you source clothing locally or from overseas?

I always try to support the local design talent and fashion industry by checking young clothing labels. I love initiatives by Woolworths that have lines designed by people like Maya Prass and Stoned Cherrie.

Name your favourite local designers. Why do you think these designs work so well for your clients?

I adore Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan du Toit. They use such wonderful fabrics and there's an intelligence to their design that is rare. Maya Prass really understands the feminine form and her designs accommodate a more voluptuous and curvaceous figure.

What are the most fashionable trends for this season?

A skirt suit - a more contemporary take on the trouser suit. Look for interesting heels that are not necessarily practical. Accessories are also a great way to give a look your own distinctive signature, so don't be afraid to experiment. Also big are metallics, but none of the brash gold or silver from the beginning of the decade.

Have you ever made a mistake in judging clients' taste and suggested something they absolutely hated?

Of course. You can't help getting it wrong sometimes.
