Senior citizens in Diepkloof, Soweto, voted in the comfort of their homes on the last day for special voters yesterday.

Mantoa Molaba, 95, slowly made her way from her bedroom to the sitting room to welcome an Independent Electoral Commission official.

Molaba chased her daughter out of the kitchen, saying her vote was her secret.

After 20 minutes of silence, Molaba shouted: "Do I put them in the envelope?" She then walked back to the sitting room and sat down.

"I feel lekker. My vote was for Nxamalala [Jacob Zuma] and it was hard to find him because of many bald heads. I had to look harder and make sure it was him," she said.

In the opposite street, David Molefe, 82, and his wife Lilly, 78, used separate rooms to vote. Molefe said he was happy to vote in the comfort of his home. - Luzuko Pongoma
