Lamontville Golden Arrows's gifted striker Kagiso Senamela has urged the youth to abstain from alcohol and drug abuse.

Instead they must concentrate more on honing their God-given football talent and become better players in future.

A former Under-23 star, Senamela gave his motivational speech at the Diski Nine Nine tournament's prize-giving ceremony in Vosloorus at the weekend.

"Stay away from substances that will be harmful to your body and try and spend a lot of time at the practice sessions," warned Senamela.

"Practice makes perfect," added the player who started his soccer career in the dusty streets of Vosloorus before he was spotted by AmaZulu and later recruited by their neighbours, Abafana Bes'thende in 2006 where he still is.

The Easter tournament was sanctioned by Vosloorus Soccer Tournament Organising Committee. The winning team, Alaska, walked away with R12000 and runners-up New Jack City got R6000.

Alaska goalkeeper Nathi Zwane and coach Baldwin Mabuya were voted goalkeeper and coach of the tournament.

City striker Sibusiso Msibi grabbed the player of the tournament award.

Sowetan was awarded a trophy for its consistency in covering the event.
