Speeding motorists locked up

Seven men were arrested for speeding on the M3 and N17 highways, Ekurhuleni metro police said yesterday.

Inspector Jimmy Maboko said police had set up traffic operations between Saturday evening and yesterday.

Five motorists were arrested on the N17 near Elsburg on Saturday evening for reckless and negligent driving.

A motorist in a Mercedes- Benz, aged 57, was arrested for driving at 184km/h, a motorist in a Toyota Corolla, aged 25, was held for driving at 185km/h and another Mercedes-Benz driver, aged 45, clocked in at 199km/h .

Two other motorists clocked in at 198km/h and 185km/h an hour respectively.

All five were detained at Elsburg police station.

Two men were arrested on the M3 in Germiston yesterday, one for driving at 193km/h and the other for driving 208km/h on a motorbike.

They were detained at Germiston police station.

All seven are to appear in the Germiston magistrate's court today. - Sapa
