Outgoing Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla yesterday thanked members of his cabinet, which has been in charge of public affairs since 2004.

Makwetla believes he has done his bit and there was no doubt that he could have done more.

"We have made a difference in the province and taken service delivery further in the realisation of a better life for all," he told the final cabinet meeting of the current executive.

"I wish to thank every executive member for an assignment well handled in the execution of our duties.

"More importantly, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the community, civil society, public servants, development finance institutions, media, political parties, business sectors and the international twinning partners of Mpumalanga for their support throughout the term," Makwetla said.

A five-year report was presented to the cabinet yesterday by the macro policy unit in the office of the premier, consisting of an overview of the provincial government's performance spanning a five-year period in office.

The report highlights successes and outstanding challenges that the administration encountered during the period 2004 to 2009.

It focuses mainly on the provincial growth and development priorities that were adopted in 2005 at Badplaas and reviewed again last year by civil society, business, organised labour and the provincial government.

The priorities include economic development, sustainable development, infrastructure development and human resource development.

Further, key development indicators will be on the big five flagship projects that were adopted by the provincial government as part of efforts to accelerate socio-economic development in the province.
