In an unprecedented move, the president of Pan Africanist white farmers from Limpopo yesterday joined the newly-formed Pan Africanist Movement (PAM).

PAM is led by former PAC general secretary Thami Ka-Plaatjie.

Eighty Afrikaners have joined PAM and a further 450 from Limpopo, North West and Mpumalanga have agreed to work with the party sharing their skills, experience and farming production knowledge.

Leading the Afrikaners was Sarel Kruger, a former apartheid police officer and ex-member of the infamous AWB.

"I was a supreme, hundred percent right winger," said Kruger.

He said that they [right wingers] did not live up to his ideals and in 1992 a Radio Pretoria programme "opened my eyes, they cured me from being right wing".

"There is no need to be enemies. We're all in South Africa and we have nowhere else to run to. I do not want to run, I want to be buried here," Kruger said.

PAM's first deputy president, Matlokana Tefu said his party welcomed the "farmers who called themselves sons of the soil."
