The relegation dogfight in the Absa Premiership remains engrossing after Thanda Royal Zulu claimed three crucial points when they beat the star-studded yet under-performing Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale yesterday.
The win moved Amabhubesi from 15th spot to 14th on the log, but they are still firmly in the quagmire.
It was a dream start for new Amabhubesi coach Mlungisi "Professor" Ngubane, who replaced Roger Palmgren on Friday after the team suffered a series of defeats under the 46-year-old Swedish coach.
Ted Dumitru, Downs's caretaker coach, is yet to win after they drew 0-0 against Platinum Stars in his first match in charge last week.
The Brazilians dominated the match yesterday but failed to score.
Surprise Moriri was presented with a perfect opportunity to break the ice when he was put through by Benedict "Tso" Vilakazi, but the linkman delivered a low shot that was easily saved by goalie Aubrey Mathibe in the 13th minute.
The visitors maintained the dominance as the match wore on but still misfired in front of goal.
Katlego Mphela and Bongane Twala also came close.
Amabhubesi had their chance to score when they won a free kick on the edge of the box, but Thabiso Rammile shot well over the bar in the 39th minute.
What Ngubane told them at the break clearly worked for TRZ as they got the only goal of the match two minutes after the restart. Man of the match Katleho Loke volleyed over befuddled goalie Brian Baloyi.
