IEC holds talks with ANC, IFP

The Independent Electoral Commission in KwaZulu-Natal has held talks with the ANC and IFP in the province over the "escalating trend" in political intimidation in the region.

The Independent Electoral Commission in KwaZulu-Natal has held talks with the ANC and IFP in the province over the "escalating trend" in political intimidation in the region.

The meeting was held at an undisclosed venue in Durban late on Monday.

IEC provincial electoral officer Mawethu Mosery said the "platform set up by the IEC for the two parties to meet" was an attempt at reconciliation.

Mosery said the IEC's intervention was mainly in the area of seeking political tolerance "for now and the future".

"As the IEC we have noted that there is a general increase in intimidation and we are seeing a lot of posters being defaced and so, we are concerned." - Mary Papayya
