A man opened fire in Duncan Village, shooting at and missing two police officers but hitting and injuring two people, East London police said yesterday.

A man opened fire in Duncan Village, shooting at and missing two police officers but hitting and injuring two people, East London police said yesterday.

Captain Stephen Marais said the two officers were shot at when they attended a complaint on Friday night.

"Police received a call that there was shooting taking place in the area. The two constables who attended the call for help. came under fire from an unknown male gunman in the area. Police fired back and the man ran away into some nearby shacks," he said.

A 46-year-old woman, who was at a party about 100m away from the shooting incident, was shot and injured in the shoulder.

A man in his 30s was shot in the head, allegedly by the same gunman. The two were in a stable condition at Frere Hospital. Police called on anyone with information about the shooting to phone 10111 or Crime Stop on 08600-10111. - Sapa
