Usuthu streak continues with win over Arrows

AmaZulu continued to shine in the Absa Premiership and they are now counted among the title hopefuls, though with an outside chance.

AmaZulu continued to shine in the Absa Premiership and they are now counted among the title hopefuls, though with an outside chance.

Usuthu proved their potential when they beat their inconsistent neighbours Lamontville Golden Arrows 1-0 in a KwaZulu-Natal derby at Chatsworth Stadium in Durban yesterday afternoon.

It was their fifth straight win and signs are promising for their last four games of the season.

Abafana Bes'thende started on a promising note when the league's top scorer Richard Henyekane threatened in the third minute but his effort went wide.

AmaZulu, however, grew more threatening as the first half wore on and they finally found the net through the boot of Bradley Ritson two minutes from the interval.

Elsewhere, Thamane Motaung and Sthembiso Ngcobo scored late goals as Free State Stars plunged Thanda Royal Zulu deeper into the quagmire. The match was played at Goble Park in Bethlehem.

Motaung struck in the 81st minute after a pass from Prince Olomu. Ngcobo was set up by Saitjheni Tsotetsi on the stroke of full-time. The win catapulted Ea Lla Koto to sixth position on the log.

Amabhubesi are facing the real possibility of being axed at the end of the season. They are third from the bottom with 26 points. - Sowetan reporters
