A new Western Cape law which bans liquor stores from selling alcohol to unlicensed taverns has turned into a political football.

Cope says the ANC provincial government is withholding an internal report which reportedly says the law strengthens the "gangster economy" by forcing shebeens under the radar.

Yesterday Cope demanded that MEC for finance and economic development, Garth Strachan, pictured, should release the "Andrew Charman report" or face court action.
