A 25-year-old Correctional Services officer has been banned from entering Pick n Pay stores countrywide following his arrest for shoplifting.
Mohammed Mansoor of Lily Road in Umzinto was arrested after an incident two weeks ago when he bought a newspaper and other goods, but only paid for the paper and not the rest of the items he had purchased at Pick n Pay in Dynarc Mall, Scottburgh, on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.
Police spokesperson Vincent Pandarum said Mansoor was nabbed by police after video footage furnished by the store showed that he had only paid for a newspaper.
When asked for receipt by a security guard, Mansoor replied that he had thrown it away.
He left before the manager could get to the car park.
Pandarum said before that incident, the manager had received a report from a staff member that Mansoor had gone through the tills without paying for his purchases.
After a series of investigations, Mansoor was arrested.
He admitted to the shoplifting charge and paid an admission of guilt fine of R500.
He also admitted that he had stolen from the same store on four separate occasions.
