With the last festive season holidays showing a marked improvement in road carnage figures, there is inevitable pressure on the traffic law enforcement agencies to further reduce the high accident rate.

With the last festive season holidays showing a marked improvement in road carnage figures, there is inevitable pressure on the traffic law enforcement agencies to further reduce the high accident rate.

This goal might seem hard to achieve but it is not insurmountable - just as long as these agencies ensure visible policing on all national roads that attract high volumes of traffic during Easter holidays.

We have to acknowledge, though, that the impact of the impressive visible policing in the first quarter of this year is not likely to make a huge dent on the country's national road death statistics yet.

That should happen when the road safety culture becomes the order of the day in this country.
