The SABC board and its head of news, Snuki Zikalala, seem to be planning to once again frustrate the ANC's plans for the public broadcaster.

Zikalala's contract reportedly expires at the end of the month, but some SABC journalists say they have been told that the board will renew his contract when it expires, just before the general elections.

The ANC does not want Zikalala as head because they believe he would be in a position to undermine them.

ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu said: "Our straightforward message to the board is - don't renew Zikalala's contract. He has proved . he is incompetent and biased."

ANC spokesperson Jessie Duarte said: "In the interest of reflecting on developmental challenges facing the country, we urge the SABC board to find a suitable candidate to replace Mr Zikalala."

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said they had noted the ANCYL and ANC statements, "but we will not comment".
