These words from UDM leader Bantu Holomisa summed up the feelings of opposition parties after yesterday's announcement by the NPA that it would drop 16 charges of racketeering, money laundering, corruption and fraud against ANC president Jacob Zuma
Opposition parties accused the NPA top guns of deciding in favour of Zuma in a bid to secure their jobs under his (Zuma's) presidency.
The ID's Patricia de Lille said the NPA should have proceeded with the trial against Zuma and prosecuted Bulelani Ngcuka and Leonard McCarthy separately.
Mvume Dandala of Cope said "the NPA has undermined the Constitution and exposed the people of South Africa to future miscarriages of justice".
DA leader Helen Zille said the tapes do not "detract from the case itself" but show that the timing of the NPA's decision to recharge Zuma was politically manipulated.
IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi said "the decision will damage South Africa's image, especially in light of Schabir Shaik's conviction on the basis of his friendship with Zuma".
