Dressed in yellow overalls and green and yellow T-shirts, people in Gauteng came out to celebrate at Newtown's Mary Fitzgerald Square yesterday.
Hundreds of ANC supporters sang revolutionary songs.
They were celebrating the announcement by the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) that all corruption charges against ANC president Jacob Zuma have been dropped.
The crowd heard NPA's acting national director Mokotedi Mpshe explained how this "was the most difficult decision I have ever made in my life".
The supporters went crazy after Mpshe's announcement.
"We have been saying all along that Jacob Zuma was innocent.
"I have been praying for him, God has answered my prayers," said Mapula Sibande, clad in ANC gear and blowing a whistle.
The provincial leadership of the ANC, Cosatu and the ANCYL addressed the jubilant crowd.
"Msholozi is a free man. The NPA has done the right thing today. Now we will move forward to ensure victory come April 22," said Gauteng premier Paul Mashatile. He said much more needed to be done "for everyone to have a better life".
Artists such as Mbongeni Ngema and William Mthetwa graced the occasion.
