Capetonian Michelle Gildenhuys controversially won the Miss Tropika beauty pageant at Sun City.

However, several people who spoke to Sowetan on Friday at the media launch of the pageant believed that Welhemina Ratsoma from Polokwane was the one for the big prize that included a Toyota Yaris among other perks.

But according to the judges, Gildenhuys was the one that deserved the big prize at this pageant, which is destined to outshine the Miss South Africa in terms of the qualities of finalists and the prestige associated with it.

"This pageant has given me the confidence to participate in more events like this. I am not bitter and I believe that Michelle deserved the prize," said Ratsoma, who although tipped to win could not even make it to the top five.

The event was held on Saturday at the Valley of Waves within the Sun City Resort.
