Teenager beaten to death after robbery

A Mpumalanga teenager was beaten to death and his alleged accomplice severely assaulted by the community after the two allegedly robbed an Ethiopian national at the weekend.

Dumisani Masanabo, 17, of Kwaggafontein died at the scene while his accomplice was under police guard at the KwaMhlanga Hospital yesterday.

Superintendent Abie Khoabane of Mpumalanga provincial police said the two teenagers allegedly robbed the Ethiopian at his store on Friday afternoon.

As they were running away, community members apprehended them.

l A Siyabuswa businessman was confronted by three gunmen who shot him in the chest as he entered his business premises in his car on Friday evening.

Immediately after Willem Motau collapsed, the gunmen took his firearm, cellphone and R2000 in cash and fled on foot. No arrests were made but police investigations are continuing.

l In another incident, Joseph Mbabala Twala of Mabila Trust in Dirkiesdorp, Mpumalanga, was fatally struck on the head with an unknown object during an argument with another man. The incident occurred on Friday morning and police are still searching for his murderer.

l Meanwhile, a security guard at Phola Park Tavern in Embalenhle near Secunda was shot in the chest by a patron who allegedly refused to be searched for weapons at the entrance to the property.

Superintendent Khoabane said the guard was doing his job on Friday evening when the patron insisted on entering the tavern but refused to be searched for weapons.

"He produced a firearm and shot the guard in the chest. He is in a serious condition in Evander Hospital and the 49-year-old gunman has been arrested for attempted murder," he said.
