Former Limpopo premier Sello Moloto, who is now a leading member of the Cope, has launched a scathing attack on the ANC, saying the ruling party celebrated each time a person died.
Moloto was addressing a rally at The Oaks in Maruleng near Hoedspruit after a door-to-door electioneering campaign on Saturday.
Moloto said each weekend the ANC was targeting funerals in communities where they garner support from mourners.
He accused the ANC of being immoral to use funerals as their platforms to woo voters.
"Funerals are supposed to be respected places where relatives, colleagues and friends pay their last respects to their loved ones.
"If the ANC wants to woo supporters for the elections, they must do it elsewhere and not at funerals," Moloto said to loud applause from about 500 Cope members who attended the rally.
He also accused the ANC of giving the youth expensive whiskies in order to disrupt opposition rallies.
He said there were specific taverns where young people were given liquor to thank them for disrupting Cope meetings.
ANC provincial spokesman Ishmael Kgetjepe refuted the allegations as fabrications by people with malicious intentions to dent the "beautiful" image of the ruling party.
He said the ANC conducted lessons where their members were taught about the values and general conduct that included discipline. If Cope had a genuine case against them, they should register their concerns with the right body that deals with elections.
National coordinator of the elections in the ANC Women's League Edna Molewa said Cope was at liberty to report the matter to the IEC .
