Golden Gloves boxing promotions boss Rodney Berman has dangled a golden carrot in front of twinkling stars Jared Lovett and Hekkie Budler, to motivate them to win tonight.

He said if Lovett beats rugged Fernando Vera in their light heavyweight clash, and junior flyweight Budler does the same to tough as nails Charrit Mukondeleli at Emperors Palace, Lovett's next fight will be for the WBC Youth (under-24) belt and Budler will next contest the IBO belt. Those fights will take place on June 13.

Lovett, 22, will fight 37-year-old Argentinian Vera in a non-title fight over six rounds while Budler, 21, will oppose Mukondeleli, 29, for the IBO All Africa junior flyweight strap.

Both fighters are undefeated - Lovett after five bouts and Budler after nine.

The tournament, a six-bout programme, is bankrolled by Gree Air Conditioners.

Topping the bill is a 12-rounder for the vacant IBO junior lightweight strap between Zolani "Untouchable" Marali and Mexico's Gamaliel "El Platano" Diaz.

Marali, 31, is a former IBO and WBF super bantam and WBF super featherweight holder. He has 19 wins and two losses while Diaz, 28, has 23 victories against eight defeats and two draws.

Meanwhile, Jake Els takes on Zimbabwe's Thamsanqa Dube for the WBA Pan African heavyweight belt.

Action starts at 8pm. All the bouts will be televised live by SuperSport.
